9th Annual Innovation Spotlight Awards – Winners Announced

On December 7th, Toronto hosted the 9th Annual Innovation Spotlight Awards presented by Building Transformations. The event took place at GBC’s Waterfront Campus in downtown Toronto and was attended by a full house.

Pietro Ferrari, Chair of Building Transformations, acted as the event’s emcee, delivering an engaging and informative show. Patrick Lalonde, Director of VDC Operations, Digital, and Data Engineering from EllisDon, started the event with an inspiring speech about the importance of innovation.

The 2023 Award, sponsored by Aecon and Dassault Systèmes, featured a short video explaining its design and creation process using digital methods.

Building Transformations recognized leaders in ten award categories:

  1. Professional Achievement Award Winner: Joe Geluch – President & CEO, Naikoon Contracting
  2. Academic Award Winner: École de technologie supérieure (ETS) – Neural Search for Intuitive BIM Data Query
  3. Research Award Winner: National Research Council of Canada – OpenBIM Web App for Decarbonizing Built Environment
  4. Entrepreneurship & Start-Up Award Winner: Intelligent City – Platforms for Life (P4L) – A Mass Timber Product Platform for Urban Housing

Intelligent City’s remarkable achievement took center stage, as we received the Entrepreneurship & Start-Up Award for our groundbreaking “Platforms for Life (P4L) – A Mass Timber Product Platform for Urban Housing.” This recognition emphasized their significant contribution to innovative urban development, casting a spotlight on Intelligent City as a pioneering force in the industry. The award was received on behalf of the company by Intelligent City Board Director Jamie James (picture).

  2. Digital Supply Chain & Fabrication Award Winner: Modern Niagara – SIMPLER CAD-CAM

  5. Design & Engineering Award Winner: WSP – TimberX – Leveraging Digital Innovation to Expand Knowledge of Mass Timber
  6. Construction Management Award Winner: Ellisdon – UofT Schwartz Reisman Innovation Centre – Full Circle Tech Deployment

The Best In Innovation Award, sponsored by SolidCAD, was presented to Parc Olympique for its digital transformation journey from “Legacy to Leadership.”
