We are excited to share the news that Intelligent City’s first building has officially opened. The BC Indigenous Housing Society wrote in their press release:
On December 2nd, 2025, at 1766 Frances Street in Vancouver, a powerful and memorable moment unfolded. Family of the late Chief Leonard George, council members of the səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation) and community partners gathered to honour his legacy through the naming of our newest building: the Chief Leonard George Building.
Chief Leonard George was a leader defined by integrity, clarity, and unwavering devotion to his people. Community came first, and everything else was secondary. He was a man who did not have much to say because every word had a precise message, always leading back to his people: “We are here to make our community a better place.”
The son of the late Chief Dan George, Leonard George served as the elected Chief of the Tsleil-Waututh First Nation from 1989 to 2001. He was instrumental in restoring the Tsleil-Waututh name, meaning “people of the inlet” after decades in which the Nation had been known as the Burrard Indian Band. His life’s work continues to shape and inspire the community today.
